A few weeks ago the red currants were ripe in our garden. These little red berries are delicious for homemade jam. Today I will show you how to create homemade jam jar labels.
First I had to pick the berries or find a few helpers with little fingers who enjoy picking them for a few bucks = my sons Nicolas and Frédéric.
They eagerly picked ALL the red currants. We weighted them and summed up we had 2.6 kg of fruit.
I washed the red currants, took off the remaining leaves and put them in a net which I squeezed over a pot to extract the juice.
I added the special sugar for cooking jam to the juice and cooked it all up following the instructions on the sugar packaging.
Free Canning Labels
We have collected glasses over the years which we use for our homemade products. Here they are filled with the delicious red currants jam.
The glasses are a bit dull and need a nice label to pimp them up. After cleaning my juice and jam sprinkled kitchen I switched to my computer to play a bit in Photoshop.
To create these labels you will need a sheet of adhesive label paper for your printer and scissors. Ribbons to embellish the glasses are also nice.
You can either make a label for the front of the glass (rectangular) …
or for the lid (circle). I will make both.

I wrote ‘Kréischelen' which means red currants in my native language Luxembourgish. My boys don't understand English and remember that they were my willing helpers to pick the berries and cook the jam.
If you don't add text on your computer, but want to hand write it, you can print right away on adhesive label paper. If you add text digitally, save the file as jpeg and print it on adhesive label paper.
Cut out the labels.
Carefully place them on your glass.
Wrap some raffia or ribbons around the glass and your product of love is ready to be stored, offered or delightfully tasted.
